Remember–never give away your username/password/or out of band authentication information!
Currently there is a ring of fraudsters who use information gathered in places like the dark web to fool you into thinking the bank is calling you to tell you about fraud on your account.
They are using a phone number mask to make you think they are calling from our number at our home address in Mooresville.
While we make calls to customers to let them know about potential fraud, we do not need your username/password/or out of band authentication to help you. If changes need to be made to your account, we will ask you to do them, not do them for you. If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately and send a chat to us through our chat system or visit us at one of our area branches!
Citizens Bank has been a cornerstone of community growth and innovation since its founding. With a legacy stretching back over nine decades, our journey is one of resilience, service, and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers. Here’s how we became the bank you trust today:
1930-1931: The Founding of a Community Bank
It all began in 1930, in the wake of the Great Depression, when Mooresville State Bank opened to serve local farmers and merchants with an initial capital of $75,000. On January 5, 1931, a group of local shareholders decided to establish a bank dedicated to serving Mooresville’s residents. At the very first meeting, Citizens Bank was born, and leadership roles were filled by prominent members of the community, such as H.W. Powell, who served as President, and Violet Cook, a pioneering woman who took on the role of Assistant Cashier and would later become the first woman officer at Citizens Bank.
1933: Stability Through National Change
As the nation recovered, Citizens Bank took a significant step by joining the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), providing customers with added security for their deposits. This move underscored the bank’s commitment to safeguarding the financial wellbeing of its community.
1956-1966: Expanding to Meet Community Needs
As Mooresville and nearby areas grew, so did Citizens Bank. Between 1956 and 1966, new branches were opened to accommodate the expanding population and the increasing demand for local banking services. By 1966, the bank’s assets had grown to an impressive $9.6 million, a testament to the trust placed in Citizens by the community.
1980s: New Horizons and Strategic Partnerships
In 1980, Citizens Bank opened the Plaza Branch, enhancing its reach within the community. This period also marked a pivotal change in 1982, when Citizens Bank became a subsidiary of CITBA Financial Corporation, allowing for greater resources and support as it continued to serve local customers.
1987-1990: Growing Across the Region
The expansion continued in 1987 with the opening of the Plainfield Branch, strengthening our presence in Hendricks County. By 1990, the bank reached another milestone with the Martinsville Branch, affirming its position as a trusted financial institution for families and businesses throughout central Indiana.
1993-2006: Bringing Banking Closer to Home
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Citizens Bank broadened its reach, opening branches in multiple locations, including Mooresville, Franklin, Plainfield, and Avon. These new branches made banking services more accessible, bringing our commitment to service right into the neighborhoods of our customers.
2009: A New Home for Corporate Operations
In 2009, Citizens Bank opened a new corporate office in a historic building in downtown Mooresville, underscoring our dedication to preserving local heritage while meeting modern operational needs. This space provided a base for management to support branch operations effectively and contribute to community initiatives.
2010-2019: Adapting for Growth and Modernization
In the decade that followed, Citizens Bank continued to grow. Our branches and corporate team worked hand in hand to enhance customer service and expand our range of services. This era saw the creation of the Customer Care Center to ensure top-notch support across all branches. In 2019, the bank embarked on a journey of modernization, investing in updates across our locations to improve the customer experience and streamline operations.
2020-2022: Expanding Access and Technology
As customer needs evolved, so did our services. Between 2020 and 2022, Citizens Bank rolled out advanced Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs), providing extended hours and convenient access to services. This investment in technology represented our commitment to staying at the forefront of banking innovation.
2023-2024: A Focus on Community-Centered Innovation
Today, Citizens Bank remains dedicated to innovation that supports our community. Our most recent initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainability, expanded facilities, and advanced technology, all designed to create a better banking experience for our customers. Our mission is to be a trusted partner and a reliable resource for the community we proudly serve.
Looking Forward
Citizens Bank’s story is far from over. With each year, we build on our legacy of resilience, adaptability, and service. As we look to the future, we remain as committed as ever to the people and communities we serve. Thank you for being part of our journey.
